Speaking at WMC

This Sunday I’ll be speaking at Weaverland Mennonite Church. Please pray for me as I share a message about forgiving others with them. I am so thankful for our involvement in the Weaverland-Northeast District. We had the opportunity to meet the lead pastors from Goodville (Bruce Sauder) and Weaverland (Brian Martin) this year when they spoke at Blainsport. Lord willing, we will get to meet some Northeast pastors next year.

The summer is winding down very quickly. College students are back in the classroom and many elementary and high school students will go back next week. I want to thank the many prayer partners who took student prayer cards this year. It is so important to keep our kids covered in prayer. We see so many disturbing images in the news related to schools. Our kids not only need our prayers for safety, but also the ability to discern the truth and make wise friendship choices.

Earlier this year, we adopted a seven-point ministry plan for youth from the book The Seven Checkpoints for Youth Leaders: Seven Principles Every Teenager Needs to Know by Andy Stanley, Howard Books, 2001. One of our key teaching principles for our youth that flows from that book is that “Your friends determine the quality and direction of your life.” As Mike Wenger shares with the adults during Sunday School this week, I’m sure you will hear him say something similar to that. He will address the difficulties kids face in school today. Good friends help to strengthen our children for sure.

One last thing I want to mention—fall ministries will be starting-up soon. We’ll begin a new Sunday School quarter, kid’s will move into their new Sunday School age classes, Junior Youth and Youth programs start a new season, and our 90th Anniversary Celebration is right around the corner (October 1-2). Remember to check your bulletins for all the opportunities.
