Start of a New Year

Hello Reign Forest Friends,

Our theme for January is Knowledge - learning something new so you can be better at whatever you do. In Psalm 119:105 we read, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” When we dig into God’s word, we start to know how God wants us to live. God’s words act like a lamp that shows us the next steps to take on our journey through life. God’s Word points the way towards a growing relationship with Jesus.

We kicked off January with the end of the Christmas story. In Matthew 2, we discover wise men in the Far East. The wise men lived hundreds and hundreds of miles from the town where Jesus was born. They came from a different culture and probably spoke a different language. But because they had spent their lives learning, they knew what it meant when God placed a star in the sky. And if that wasn’t enough, when they traveled to Jerusalem, they asked to hear more so they could find out exactly where the new king had been born.

Knowing Jesus can feel a little overwhelming, because you can’t just sit down and build towns and scenes with him or hang out at the park. But, like the wise men, you CAN learn to know Jesus by studying what God says.

You can read God’s Word, the Bible. Or talk to people who have spent time learning what God says, like your mom or dad, even a grandparent.

Bottom Line: Discovering what God says helps you know Jesus. The entire Bible points to Jesus. If you want to get to know Jesus, read what the writers of the Bible say about Him. We want kids to understand that the Bible is the key to knowing more about Jesus.
After the video lesson, we dived into God’s Word and learned the following about Jesus:
        Jesus is our KING who made everything.
        Jesus is our good SHEPHERD who cares for us.
        Jesus is our HEALER who makes us strong.
        Jesus is our TEACHER who gives us wisdom.
        Jesus is our LIGHT who shows us how to follow Him.

This week also starts up our Bible Memory Verse Challenge again.  The memory verse is “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105 NLT
